Dorothy J. Nelson-Nutt
Hello, my name is Ms. Nelson! I have a bachelor’s degree in media arts and animation, and I received my master’s in secondary education in the spring of 2022. Before I was a high school visual and media arts teacher, I worked for a small self-defense and survival company as a director’s assistant, audio specialist, and product photographer.
After my own experiences in high school, I joined the US Navy, where I worked as an airplane engine mechanic. It was in this experience that I realized my leadership capabilities and enjoyment of working with people. I enjoyed being creative from an early age, and after the military, art school was the natural choice for me. My professors’ skills and interest in their own fields encouraged my passion for continued education.
The students I have met so far have changed my life. I see children in a completely different light now that I am no longer able to consider myself one. I was a challenging student, but my favorite students are the ones who challenge me and help me grow into a better teacher everyday. My hope is that students leave my class feeling accomplished and challenged.
